PYB’s co-founders saw a compelling need and opportunity to achieve four interrelated goals:
- To leverage the iconic game of basketball with off-court program supports to positively impact Philadelphia’s young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, to reach their potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders.
- To create and implement a holistic program model delivered by a dedicated network of culturally credible coaches, academic mentors, and volunteers with the support of a highly professionalized organization led by a high-capacity and inclusive board of directors and staff team.
- To mobilize an “all in” community effort that transcends traditional dividing lines of geography, industry sector, gender, race, heritage, and socioeconomic status and ethnicity, economic circumstance and social standing, gender, and religion.
- To ultimately build a state-of-the-art Youth Basketball and Education Center to serve as the epicenter for basketball-based youth development in our city.
